Identification Field In Data Pages

Post by Shovelnose »

I was wondering if this can be split into genus and species fields (like in the data entry page) as sometimes, if there is a lot of comparison between congeners the entire column looks a bit messy with too much text in it.

Sergeant: Not stone, sir.

Yes, it can. Should it? I don't know.

It wouldn't be hard to do, really, and I think we've discussed it before.

[Moved to "Suggestions, Feture Request and Enhancements" because it's not a discussion on teh Cat-eLog content, it's about the features of the Cat-eLog...]

Ah. I did remember I spoke 'bout it but didn't remember who with.

A separate field would make it look a bit neater IMO. Also, the genus identification field remains common throughout that particular genus while only the species identification field changes. If a user is trying to read through pages of multiple species of the same genus, he can read the species identification entry directly instead of having to locate it from the block of text.

Good enough???

I can't find a discussion on this from before, so maybe it's something I discussed via e-mail with Jools (or something like that).

It is up to Jools to decide, but it's not a major change, so shouldn't be too hard to do.

What I'd like to do is have it all under indentification but have a blank line between genus and species.

Have you an example of a "messy" one?

That sounds good too. Just something to separate the two would work.

for instance. I wouldn't call this messy but definitely missing a break somewhere IMO.

Ps : I did that entry. :icon-redface:

Maybe it's my way of thinking about things, but I think nearly all the ones that have a lot of text in either field looks messy.

Randomly choosen:

I have made the relevant changes (and fixed a bug I found by chance in random species - it sometimes hangs).

Not convinced a line separator is the right thing [or that I've done the right type of line!], but that's what I have done.

Well, Jools will need to upload it before it "works in the new way".

Tidied up a little bit and now online. Can we call this resolved?

I think it's resolved. I like your changes. Would be even better if they were in the version control system <hint, hint>!
