Synodontis Granulosus?

Came across 3 syno's at my lfs that looked like Synodontis Granulosus. I know they're quite rare so I assume we could be dealing with hybrid lookalikes here..





















could these be granulosus?

They look genuine to me too. I have seen real ones, but I couldn't afford them... Congratulations (I take it you bought them, as they don't look like they are in a shop's tank).

Well I havn't bought them as I have no room, the lfs owner just got them from a customer who said they grew to big. The customer must've never known these fish were rare, the lfs owner had no idea either when I told him what they "could" be.

He asked me to help him find a good home for them so that's what I'm going to do. Not sure what price is reasonable for these fish though...

Try asking Sidguppy on the forum how much he's willing to give you - I'm sure he'll drive from the Netherlands to pick them up... And he'll introduce them to his group that has spawned at least once - I think two or three times.... Just a suggestion, of course. But since you got them for nothing, selling them for a "reasonable" price to someone who knows how to look after them is a decent thing to do, rather than "go for the money", and sell them to someone who don't REALLY know what they are and how to care for them.

I got 6 at the moment and they're feisty, stating it nice.

the one female that ever spawned a few times died 2 years ago; she was greatly weakened by medications I had to use for infections on the Madagascar cichlids

a big mistake, since i almost killed off every catfish in that tank back then....
the other 4 got better, but not her
afterwards it turned out her gills were damaged too badly and after breathing rapidly for 4-5 months and me moving house on top of that, she died

that threw the equilibrium in that group, since she was the biggest by far.
I have never seen any spawning attempt after that.
my 2 males took the chief's hat, so to speak; now I'm quite convinced that a group of granny's ruled by males is a mess; you'd need a big female to give stability.


recently I added another pair, now ending up with 3 males and 3 females

unfortunately the biggest fish in my group are still the males.
the only way I canm fix that is trying to exchange 1 or 2 smaller females to 1 or 2 large ones.
