Sand substrate

Post by xander »

So I am thinking of tearing down my tank of god knows how many years and setting it up again with sand instead of gravel. This is unchartered territory. I would have done it years ago but I know not what to do. How do you clean the tank? I am used to cleaning the gravel and think sand would just get sucked up. I have an under gravel filter on that tank now. (Like I said its been around a LONG time). And I have power heads on them. I need to keep up that kind of flow. I (and the fish) like to add a little current. I'm not sure how to do this in multiple directions and with such precision with a single external filter. If theres anything more I need to know please enlighton me.

Hi,
Cleaning sand substrate is easy but needs soe practice for not sucking any sand. The trick is to keep the gravel cleaner 1/2 inch above the sand.
Its easy to direct with precission the current of an external filter. You just have to buy more plastic tubes than the external filter includes.
