Syno 60 gallon stocking?

Post by feesh »

I am cycling a 60 gallon 48"W x 13"D x 24"H right now, but I have a question on how to stock it.
Are syno. petricola and syno. multipunctatus compatible? If so, how many of each could go in there?
The only other fish I plan to put in there is one African cichlid (haven't decided on species, but it won't be a mbuna type.)

yes, they're compatible.
about 6-7 of each will be no problem.

about the cichlid; you could go for a mellow sand chewing species 1 male and a few females of -for example- Otopharynx lithobates. or an Aulonocara species.

dietary requirements for catfish and sandchewers are alike.

Not suitable with Rift Lake species. They are riverine species (from S. angelicus is from the Congo, S. ocellifer from Benoue and Niger rivers, along with a few others in the North/Western parts of Africa)

If I didn't get a cichlid, petricola, or multi, could ocellifer and angelicus go with eachother?

S. angelica can be quite territorial, so may not work with any other (large) synos. Reportedly, they do not bother small Synos.

Thank you, I am thinking Aulonocara maylandia (sulfurhead cichlid) and 8 multis?
