Auchenoglanis Wittei?
I've kept a few varieties of a. occidentalis in the past which were somewhat different than this one. With the black barbels, longer face and the single black opercular spot suggests a. wittei perhaps. Acquired 8 months ago @ 2 1/2"TL it's now @ 14". A great pet with an outgoing personality and current fave, gets along well with it's tankmate, a 12" parauchenoglanis species...

Re: Auchenoglanis Wittei?
I believe you are correct.
Do you happen to have a picture of the fish as a juvenile?

Birger, do you mean younger than the one in the 2nd pic?
Nice cat, Yellowcat. Thanks for the growth info. What is the size in the 2nd pic?
Such a pity that this beautiful pattern pales with years.

Re: Auchenoglanis Wittei?
The middle photo in the first post is of the fish as juvenile, here's three more from it's juvenile days. Hoping that if it is indeed an a. wittei that it won't grow as large as some of the a. occidentalis I've kept in the past and I can keep it long term. Looking at it just now with measuring tape in hand, it seems it's closer to 15", so far...

Re: Auchenoglanis Wittei?
hehe...yes I missed the juvenile caption...Birger, do you mean younger than the one in the 2nd pic?
What I would like is to have matching juvenile to adult pictures of the same fish for each species of Auchenoglanis as juvi's are so hard to place so far...images like yellowcat is showing(if he would allow them into the Cat-eLog) and as Mark Smith has supplied for what we think is an undescribed species he has been raising.
This will take some time as more people raise up the different species and take pictures along the way.

Re: Auchenoglanis Wittei?
I have my doubts that it will not grow as large, but it will be interesting to find out for sure...wittei is one that we are quite sure gets to be a fair size.it won't grow as large as some of the a. occidentalis I've kept in the past
That is a good amount of growth in only eight months.. Acquired 8 months ago @ 2 1/2"TL

Re: Auchenoglanis Wittei?
Here's one nice juvie photo and two as it exists today. Glad to have them shown in the cat-eLog, will be sending many of my catfish pic's to Jools soon, behind in doing so as my hard drive crashed earlier in the year and it's been hard to get my photo files sorted ever since...
