I found this lonely cory at the fish import market from Mexico city the other day (imports from Columbia). I have been going through all the profiles here but have not been successful. The fish is currently around 3 cms.
Yes, you are right. I guess what I need to do is to see whether my cory has this 3rd rictal barbel. I will get the magnifying glass out!
I have another unidentified cory, which shows similarities to the septentrionalis. It would be great if it turns out that I have 2 of the same type, instead of 2 lonely ones.
Yes, simulatus and septentionalis have third rictal barbels. I too think it is closer to simulatus. Have another good look. The barbel is small and hard to spot.
as you've said it was imported from Colombia, this is another evidence for C. simulatus.
It looks also to me closer to C. simulatus. I would expect the barring in the caudal fin to disappear when it's fully grown.
Thank you.
The fish is currently around 35 - 40 mm, so pretty big already. All corydoras we get are imported from Columbia and I do not know which ones are bred in captivity or which ones are wild caught.
