Pleco Suggestions
Hi, I'm looking for some Suggestions on a new Pleco. I have a 40gal(36in x 18in x 18in) and am looking for a pleco for it. I have bred Bristlenose in the past and want to try something else(unfortunately lost them all in a move). The tank will just be for the pleco's and some tetras. I will probably be ordering online so that leaves me with many options. What would be some good websites to look at ordering from besides here and aquabid? Also if anyone knows of any places within a couple of hours of Northeast Pennsylvania(besides ThatPetPlace). I would like to keep it around $50 or less per pleco other then that I'm open to any options. Some of the plecos I have been considering are L134,L333,L204 and L104.Here is a picture of my tank as it is currently,I'm going to add more driftwood when I can find some and I have some caves on their way from Plecocaves.com.
Thanks,MattRe: Pleco Suggestions
I would suggest L18 if you can find them, they are cool, i pick up one fore 22 bucks at LFS. If you can find L177, they are brighter colored than L18s. I l134's are also nice looking. Good luck on your search.
Good luck
Good luck

L400 ?
Never give up until you have released your unused capacities for service and shared your gift with others. One enkindled spirit can set hundreds on fire.

Re: Pleco Suggestions
If you have already considered L333 that seems a good choice to me ( Apistomaster has some i think & can probably ship).see thread here http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 01#p238680

Re: Pleco Suggestions
I would get a group of - they are nice to look at, reasonably easy to keep & breed. What more could you want?

I can't say I've been to every store within a hundred miles of ThatPetPlace, but I can say that for a pleco selection I have never seen any store come anywhere close. If I could make it there, I would definitely drive up there instead of buying fish online. The ability to visually select your fish is good.
As far as price, P. maccus is of course the cheapest, but Panaque species are not as easy to breed as L134 or L333.

What about Shark Aquarium in NJ (near Newark Airport, see sharkaquarium.com/)? However, the last time I was there, I don't remember hyphans (I do remember some nice L91s).

Re: Pleco Suggestions
I drive some 200 miles (one direction) to get to some of the best shops in this country - yes, I could get the fish shipped to me, but I prefer to SEE the fish I'm buying. I may not be better at sexing the fish than the shop, but if I consult with the shop, then I have at least as good chance to get both sexes for a breeding group (in the right numbers, hopefully). (Bear in mind that 200 miles is quite a long way in a country where wherever you are, it's no more than 80 miles to the nearest coastline).Suckermouth wrote:If I could make it there, I would definitely drive up there instead of buying fish online.
