Amaralia hypsiura

Hi guys,

How do you sex this cat ?

Also, I saw one few days ago and it was in full brown but it morphed to full black when I got them today. Anyone can advise why ?

Hi

I can't say for definite but I would say my friend and I have a pair. They are both the same length but one is much broader across the head and body (and this tends to be the case in for the sexes in most banjos). They can change colour a bit depending on skin moulting but in my limited experience tend to stay the same main colour (some are browner whilst some are blacker).

May I know whats the main diet of your pair ? Also, I read that they feed on fish eggs have you tried ?

They can be very difficult to feed. After purchase it can be several weeks. All ours will eat are chopped live earthworms and frozen bloodworm. I bought some fish eggs but they wouldnt eat them. Here are some pics of ours:

Thanks for all the info, guys.

Now that I have a pair on hand, I am quite surprised that they only interested with food as mentioned as I realized that their mouth is pretty large.

btw, one of mine is abt 11cm SL and 12.5cm TL.

Anyway, here are my pair.

For the record, my larger fish is 13.5cm (5.3inch)TL & 11.5cm (4.5inch)SL (as the body is slightly curve during the shoot, so it is slightly longer than what you see as compared against the ruler)

I picked up one of these fascinating banjos at the weekend. On the basis of the above post and excellent photos, I'd say the catelog sizes need updating.

Managed to get them feed even with light turned on. Pretty rare footage I think. :)
