Bunocephalus sp. white

Post by plesner »

Next week I'll be visiting an LFS at the other end if the country. They claim to have a banjo cat by the name Bunocephalus sp. white ? Does anyone know what this might be ? As far as I can see, this name may originate from the people exporting the fish from Peru.

The fish in question is Pterobunocephalus depressus, which are imported as Bunocephalus sp. blanco (white in Spanish).

Thanks HH. Should they be kept just like B. coracoideus ? What size will they grow to ?

Yeah, their requirements are almost identical to that of B. coracoideus (I have two P. depressus at the moment). They are a lot less active and appear to be even more nocturnal than B. coracoideus. I can feed all my other banjo cats (B. coracoideus, B. amazonicus & B. verrucosus) with the tank light on, but these guys eat very reluctantly with the light on.
For some strange reason, mine seem to enjoy frequenting the area where the current is the strongest.
They are not particularly large banjo cats and should max out at about 9 cm SL.
