salmon for Leporacanthicus

I've had a Leporacanthicus cf galaxias (L241 possibly) for over a year now and to ad some variety to its food I was thinking to trying to feed it canned salmon (packed in water of course). It has a healthy appetite so no problems there. Anyone have any thoughts pro or con on this?

I think canned salmon will be pretty messy. I don't think it would hurt to try a small amount though.

My large plecos (Mostly common browns) they eat the left over Spring and Coho that I feed my shovelnoises and Rtc, but I always use fresh, thankfully living in BC there are tons for me to catch or buy locally. Also Raw is WAY better as LOTS of nuts are lost when they boil the fish also releases oils so hard rinsing would be required if your not doing a water change rite after feeding.

How about fresh shrimp.

Deli shrimp will work but make sure to cut it up into small enough pieces as it whole they won't be able to swallow so they can choke or will most likely happen just suck on it and hide it till it gets a little rotten then eat it, not the best for them so if its still in there 15 minutes after feeding take out and chop up. Also another trick I use since I have larger catfish is beef heart or zucchini cut out a small section in the middle add a piece of beef heart then a few more pieces a pinch of flour (so when freezes binds together) then thaw for 10 minutes so out side is sqwishy ready to serve. The added nutrition really adds for a more colorful and cheerful fish.

Thanks all for the responses. I haven't gotten around to it yet but when I do I will probably stuff it in some zucchini along with some other tidbits. And I will definitely will be washing off and watching for oil pollution. I already feed the small "popcorn" shrimp, raw prawns along with a myriad of other foods that I have success with. I will report the results here if I notice anything unusual.
