Breeding L91

After many years i got a spawn of my Leporacanthicus triactis!
The female is around 20 cm and the male à bit bigger!

I took the eggs and hope this Will work out! Next time i Will let the male Do the job!
I think high temp trigged them to spawn!

190 uS/cm
pH 6,8
Temperature 32 degrees!
Medium current and good filtration
No nitrit/ nitrate

The female layed around 250 eggs! Some where bad so i just hope that the male has done his work. They seemes very sensitive as in other lepos eggs

I have them in a net with good oxygenation.

This as been à very good pleco year!

I've had a pair in a tank w. a pair of L128 for months with not a lot of action. The female is nice and plump and the water is soft (under 100ppm TDS), so I'm thinking it's time to raise the temp a couple more degrees.

The males cave is located where the current is strongest. A bit of boogwood to make shade and to make it easy for the two females to hide!

Nice job Cristoffer! You are having great success with many different species. With my L160 spawn this month I waited for 10 days after the spawn before I collected the fry. He was getting frustrated trying to keep them in the cave.

I agree with your thoughts about the next time.
I have taken the eggs early and I have waited to take the eggs. As a general observation the fry seem healthier when left with the male. The male seems more interested in spawning again, does a better job each time with the fry, and the entire courtship is much faster the next time.

There where something strange with these eggs. To this date Ive lost 90 % of the eggs! They are getting smaller and smaller and more and more yellow instead of orange. There where embryos in some of them but I couldn't see embryos in most of them.
Ive raised fry artificially many times and never witness anything like this!
Ive put 50% of the remaining eggs with methylene Blue and the others with à normal set up.

Next time i Will let the male do the job!

I vill add the photos soon but hope for even better images next spawn!

I do not think you taking the spawn had anything to do with it. You know how to raise eggs. How old is the female? The eggs were probably too old. I saw a similar issue with an older betta. The next time will be better!

Hi!

I dont really know. Something where strange with the eggs. I dont think the female is very old but this is her first spawn (I think) and for the first time in 4 years.

The male will do this better next time I hope!
I added another female and hope that she will be interested soon!

Im a bit bitter cause Ive benn struggled with them for a long time. But I hope they "let go" now and start to spawn on more regular basis!

hey, recently my l91's spawned for the first time, i too struggled with the eggs and lost alot to fungus and shell hardening but iv managed to keep a few alive and now they are doing well. just starting to look like propper little l91's

no but perhaps i should have, but i saw a few infertile eggs and was worried as they might spread fungus.. also he didnt seem to be fanning them much so i took them. next time il let him try as i found the eggs hard to hatch, i lost around 90% but with what i have left im very happy!

hi jason,

im not sure on the age but they arnt too old, iv had them about 8-9 months and they we're around 6" originally, now both around 7". iv got 2 pairs but it was the biggest pair who spawned, the others are slightly smaller around 5.5-6" now. hope this helps

My two L91 been in the cave the last 3 days, no eggs yet. Cross your finger guys!.. if I see eggs should I save it or let it hatch then transfer them to a separate tank?
