Baryancistrus demantoides?

I want to order some green phantoms. I have always heard this vender on aquabid has good stuff. Is this Baryancistrus demantoides?

the dorsal and adipose fin look connected to me, but not completely sure.

I want to order from him but so far it doesn't look like its the L 200 I am looking for. Unless does anyone think the pictures fish is B. demantoides? Or anyone knows who has them?

Probably H. subviridis, they're just for more common. B. demantoides is more sought after as it is rarer. I agree it's hard to tell from the image, though. Snook has a great selection, but these days I don't think you should sell L200 without distinguishing what you've got...

lol great. I figured I would take a break from my hunt for more L14 to get some of these guys. I guess I am starting up a whole new search. What is the going price for these guys if I can find a Baryancistgrus demantoides?

the more I look at those pictures on aquabid I think they are the B. demantoides. Look at the dorsal fin it has more of the curve and hook appearance of the B. demantoides and the dorsal fin is riding right up to the tail. Your guys thoughts?

The fish in the pictures looks like H. subviridis. I'd expect the B. demantoides to be marked specifically as such, since they are usually worth a little more, and the seller will want to cover the extra that the seller paid.

Contact the seller and ask if he has/can get the fish you want. Right now, it's the season just starting for Rio Orinoco fish (including both varieties of L200), so unless they are goign extinct, they should be available.

The season for Rio Xingu fish is more autumn than spring, so I would expect that (L014) is not quite so easy to get - but they may still be available from wholesalers or exporters that stocked up last year.

So another supplier told me they had them but the short fin variety. Does that make sense or more likely the wrong fish?

Hi-fin generally refers to B demantoides, so short fin would be H subviridis

Just a curiousity thing for me, as I am planning to get some. Which of the two speices is easier to keep? I thought most barys are harder to keep alive than hemis? I have very little experience with either group of fish, but the avacado body would look phenominal in my most recent tank set-up and it is set for either.

Both are easy to keep in my opinion. I've kept them both and they adapted very easily. I think you mean L18/L81/L177 bariancistrus species they can have problems with eating in the beginning.

I am going to look at a group that is supposed to be baryancistrus demantoides on Friday. The fish are four inches. At this size will the fold between the dorsal and adipose fin be present?

Yes, it's present at all sizes, as long as the fish is sufficiently developed to have it's adult shape - anything more than new hatchlings should be distinguishable, as long as you can see well enough.

so went to look at the group of L200 today. Nice large fish, but the owner and me don't think they are baryancistrus. Whats the verdict? Thanks

Looks like to me...next time look at the mouth or in this case get them to take a mouth shot, you can tell right away.

Sorry, meant to also add to compare the mouth shots in the Cat-eLog pictures for each species.
