Synodontis Multipunctatus????????

Post by Pogo »

Hi,
I have bought 5 Synodontis. They were sold as Synodontis Multipunctatus but I am not convinced that they are. Sorry the pictures aren't brilliant but any feedback will be very much appreciated.

It is looking a little suspect...to be honest the pictures are not really clear enough to tell where the white is and is not to start with...some hybrid producers are mixing species of Tanganyikan synos and I have been seeing a lot lately from people looking for ID's...not saying yours is a hybrid but would like a clear picture from the side to be able to help you for sure.

Thanks for your reply.
Hopefully these pictures will give you a better look at them, I could only get 3 out of the rocks though.

Hopefully these pictures will give you a better look at them,
These are just as I feared unfortunately and have ID'd others like this in recent weeks.

For any of the true species from Lake Tanganyika there are none that have this amount of white both before and after on the fins at the same time. It is obvious (to me) that someone has taken either petricola or lucipinnis and combined it with grandiops or multipunctatus as I can see features of both body types.

Believe me I would like to take and give whoever is doing this a shake as the true species are often hard enough to ID.
