This is Salvador. Is he/she a yellow bullhead? If not, can anyone ID the fish?

Nope, that's not a yellow bullhead. It's a white catfish (Ameiurus catus).

How big does the white catfish get? this is a young fish; any idea how to sex it or how old it has to be before the difference show?

How big does the white catfish get?
24.5 inches. The males would have an elongate genital papilla, which the females lack. Fish may mature as early in 1 year under certain culture conditions.

That is fine, I think. We are having trouble getting the fish to eat; he has rejected pellets, flakes, and red worms. I think he is accustomed to live goldfish, which we won't feed. I am thinking a nice fresh prawn (giant shrimp) from the grocery store, on a stick.

Are these guys like goldfish and koi in that the metabolism slows down in cold water? Salvador is in an unheated basement and it is probably dropping into the 50's deg F. in there. We don't feed the cyprinids below 55 deg. F.
