Cucumber

Post by French47 »

Hello,

Can you over feed cucumber? I have 2 sailfin pleco's, 1 bristlenose, a Royal pleco and a couple of Banjo's
each day I place a piece of cucumber about 1-1½" Dia and about ¼ thick complete with skin, by the next morning it's all gone skin and all. Should I limit the amount being fed?

Hi all,
You can't really over-feed cucumber, as it is 99% water. This means that it doesn't have much food value. If you don't already try feeding a bit more variety of vegetables. The Royal will like things like Yam and Sweet Potato that it can rasp on, and I also feed Capsicum pepper, boiled carrot, courgette etc.

The Banjos are exclusively carnivorous, so blood-worms, red worms etc are more suitable supplementary feed than vegetables.

My bristlenose will take 5 lettuce leaves and eat them all in one night, no joke. He's only three inches long, but he has the appetite of a common pleco! When you feed veggies, they can produce a lot of waste, but the waste isn't as high in ammonia toxicity as the waste of carnivorous fish, since it contains less protein. So no, you can't overfeed cucumber, though I agree with Darrel in that you should supplement with other foods.

Thanks Guys,

That's what I wanted to know, I also feed Blood worm, White mosquito larvae, Black mosquito larvae, Prima, tetra flake, catfish pellets and Dr Bassleer Biofish food. So as you see they get a varied diet.
I was worried about the vast amount of cucumber that was being consumed.
Cheers
