Spotted Cory's

Post by Coryman »

Just lately there have been a lot of references to "Spotted" Cory's

There are at least 60 species that would fall into that catagory, some are only small reaching about 1.5 inches sl (body length) (40.00 mm), others as big as 4 inches SL (100.00 mm). Therefore I would ask that those of you that can post pictures when refering to "Spotted"Cory's please do it will help (Me at least) to know what we are talking about.

Thanks

Ian

Coryman maybe you could make a sticky giving a run down of the common problems you and others are faced with if people post generalised questions. a sort of "what not to post section"

I would really like to see a *information required* sticky which people can read before posting about health issues. Otherwise the fist posts are all getting to grips with the situation.

without a sticky this will be forgotten about in a week and new members will never read this post.

Hi. If I can stick my two cents in. I'm a member of another forum where people constantly post the "What's wrong with my fish?" question. The next thing you get are 5 or 6 people asking about "temp, water parameters, size of tank, what they feed, etc." and it's a waste of time and posting. If it were MY Forum and I understand that it IS NOT, I would totally ignore any request for "help" that did not supply the basic information YOU folks need in order to attempt to successfully help someone. It's like when I ran an information site for guppy enthusiasts. What were the top 5 questions?

1. What do guppies eat?

2. How can I tell a male guppy from a female.

3. When will my guppy lay eggs? (That's right - lay eggs!)

4. When can I sell my baby guppies for a lot of money?

5. Why are my guppies dying? I used very clean tap water and in an hour they were all dead.

I had one response to these people. BUY A BOOK! No money? VISIT A LIBRARY.

People have no respect for your expertise that took you years to develop and more importantly no appreciation for your limited time on the planet, which most people are happy to waste.

My solution was simple. I placed a sendmail form on the site with "required fields" asking for all the information I need to help me - HELP THEM. No form - NO RESPONSE!!! I was amazed at the indignant mail I would get from people asking me where I got my nerve to give them the third degree in order to get help. I never dignified their mail with a response.

Its nice that you people want to help others, but others have a responsibity to you, to be fair, considerate, courteous AND intelligent. Like I said - it's your site and you can do what you want, but I believe you would serve yourselves well to request, if not insist on basic info and save valuable time for everyone.

Sorry for venting - but this subject really makes me believe in "HEC." Human Existence Criteria. - Frank/Guppyman
I used to be schizophrenic, but we're OK now. At least that's what my dog is always telling me!

I agree to all this but would add that we can't shout at folk for brain time theft unless we put the suggestions above in place and moderate towards them.

The wheels of change are in motion...
