Marble lancer cat

Post by mcaquatic »

I rarely buy fish on a whim but this cat was too striking to pass up. I am not finding much info out there. Can anyone tell me a little about them.

Your title caught my eye, and you know about curiosity and the catfish lol.
Is the catfish in question anything like this?

Thought I'd be helpful and agree, not a lot of info. Most I found was on wet web media, and that was most general on the family. Sorry couldn't be of more help.

is there anything specific you want to know?

I've had a couple of these on different occasions & they are generally pretty easy to keep. The only problems i've encountered is they take a dislike to certain other cats, so if mixing them with others avoid their own kind & close relatives. I'd go as far as saying avoid most of their family.

I've successfully mixed these with doradids & auchenipterids.

They were prety unfussy as to water & feeding & weren't out & out predatory towards small fish.

Thanks for the help everyone. Should it be ok with a synodontus decorus?

Although they have similar-ish colouration & get to the same size, they are from different continents so could well be fine together.

Do you have any pics at all?

They must be available now. I picked up four yesterday. That was the first time I have seen any in quite a while. I had one about twenty years ago.

The place I got mine had two. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for yours? Was it the same size?

I've had a couple but never at the same time - are people keeping these together in groups - how do they fare? What size tank for what size specimens?
Mine were exceptionally peaceful with other tankmates but I've often wondered about keeping them in groups

I only have the one. IT would attack my 12 inch bgk. Now he is in a tank with a few other cats and seems pretty peaceful

unfortunately poor choice of decor and some very large fish equaled a squished lancer

Can you please tell us about growth rates you've observed on your two and perhaps any other noteworthy things that are not described here, Scotcat, FishBase, etc.?

Unfortunately I don't have too much to offer. I haven't seen much of him in the last two years. He has triple in size since i got him, eats anything and doesn't like large bgks. Thats all I got
