# of plecos and what kinds?

Post by fishay12 »

I already have a young bristlenose that looks like Ancistrus cf. cirrhosus. I want another pleco that will have a similar diet so that they can be fed the same thing. I wuld br fine with getting it a mate once it is sexable, but I would prefer to have another species or two. My favorites so far are L010a, L200, L204, L104. Also, is anybody willing to sell me one of these for not too much? ( im kinda on a tight budget )

If you wanted something that has a similar diet as your Ancistrus none of the ones you listed would really match.

L10a is a carnivore, L104 and L200 are omnivores, and L204 is a wood eater.

Ancistrus are herbivores.

L104 (commonly known as a Clown Pleco, a name it shares with several species) would probably be the best tank mate of the ones you listed as it has a similiar size and a diet that can be easily duplicated. You can find clown plecos in many local pet stores.

In your area Aquamania (sponsored by Capital Cichlid Association) is coming up pretty soon and you could probably find these (along with many other species) there for a decent price.

I would also suggest you keep the herbivores and carnivores with their own types. You can probably group omnivores together more successfully.

I have no real suggestions as far as stocking, but feeding is no problem for me. I have a 125 gallon and have everything from breeding bristlenose to complete carnivore L160 in there and have zero problems feeding them. I take wafers from a local fish store and massivore delight and crush them up into 4ths and feed them a handful every other night and the surprising thing is that the typical carnivores will eat the spirulina wafers and the herbivores will eat the carnivore wafers or earthworm sticks. You just need to experiment with feeding. It is nice to vary your fishes diets. You would be surprised what you find out they enjoy!

I agree to vary their diets and I do, but i dont want the bn getting too much protein and bloating or getting sick.
