This is the first time I saw someone attempt an estimate of how many fish are left. A couple of hundred adults in the wild... in poor countries where people struggle to feed their children... and the goverments are under pressure and often are corrupt. Realistically, the largest catfish in the world has no chance. It's - another one bites the dust (soon). All we will have left is farms, and those are few, appears like less than 3-4.

I think it is often cited the largest freshwater fish in the world by weight. There is some debate though.
