Spotted Cory ID - kanei - C048 - ambiacus?

Post by Mol_PMB »

Yesterday I bought a group of 9 Cories from a retail shop. They were sold as C.kanei, and look very similar to some of the pics on the C.kanei profile on planet catfish. However, I now understand that C.kanei have much smaller spots (the first few planet catfish profile pics may be incorrect), and what I have are probably C048.

On closer inspection of my fish it may be more complicated still. Some seem to have a definite black line at the front of their dorsal fin, while others definitely don't have a black line.

Is there an idiots' guide to identifying spotted Cories that would help me?

I can post pics of some of my fish if that's the best way.

Many thanks,
Paul

Any thoughts? Ive attached some pics of these fish - not brilliant I admit, will have another go later.
Ignore the melini mixed in with them :)

Hi,

certainly no C. ambiacus, this is C 48 IMHO.
I guess you don't have info about their origin (river system9 ?!

Cheers,

Thanks :) sorry, the only info about origin is which shop they came from! I'm not even sure if they're wild.

I asked elsewhere as well and the consensus is C048 as you suggest.

They're currently playing happily with 6 melini and 5 burgessi :)

Hi! Mol_PMB :-!

I am very happy that I saw your post this evening about your Corydoras either Kanei or C048 because I have them too. They exactly look like your Corydoras that you post for ID them because I Really need to know as well, but I am NOT ready to post them yet at this time. I am trying to let them getting bigger or more mature, so I will try to take a nice and clear photos for posting later on. They are Wild from PERU, but I do NOT exactly know specific location. My fish distributor Only know from PERU for sure, but do not know specific location. They said like that to me. I have one of them he is already big or mature. His length is about 5+ cm. I have almost 20 of them and I Really love them all. You know that at the first time I thought some of them might be Corydoras Atropersonatus because I could NOT see the black line on their dorsal fin, but when I focused on them very carefully, I can slightly see the black line on them. I think that some of them still might be too young to show up the black lines. I think you will love them as me because they are different and very active. /:) I hope someone can help us soon because I Really need to know too. :-\

I will take some of my Corydoras' photos as soon as I am ready and post in here to ask more information about them too. Talk to you soon. :-!

Bunthid or Max /:)
