Parotocinclus haroldoi or something else?

Post by Leon »

This little fellow is in my tank for about 4 years now but I still wonder what species it is.
My best guess is a Parotocinclus haroldoi.
Any thoughts?

Hi,

it's not P. haroldoi and certainly close to P. spilosoma or perhaps exactly this species.
This species came in as by-catches of P. jumbo at times when it was still allowed to export them.

As a reference, this is P. haroldoi:

and this is the P. cf. spilosoma:

The latter species is very variable with respect to colour and the shape of the points/dashes.
P. haroldoi always has clear white points.

Cheers,
