L239 Colour Variation

Post by MrRRunner »

I have 4 x L239's (Baryancistrus Beggini) Blue fin panaque,
2 were purchased in early April from a reputable Aquatic shop, and 2 were purchased early May from a private sale,
My query is that the first 2 have never shown the usual blue tinge to their finnage, unlike the other 2 and others I've seen.
It is more of a Brown tinge, rather than blue, not the best image but you can get the idea.
Any thoughts as to why?

Stress perhaps, due to lack of wood from previous seller or disease caused by parasites. Some sellers tend to keep their livestock in inappropriate settings with the least available care possible. Are the eyes and bully sunken?

I've had them from early April and originally bought 4,(WC) two of which died within a couple of days with sunken belly and eyes not sunken but not great, I know Baryancistrus are hard to acclimatise and took a lot of care with them, They are well settled in now and eating well, maybe in time the Blue will appear, as far as I know there is only one catch location (correct me if I am wrong) and thought maybe they were from another location.
Just wondered if any one else who keeps them has this colour variation.

Maybe they are young.
They can have a adult tall but not the color.

How long do they live in your tank ?
You don't know their age ???
You must spend one year more and if you don't see any differences you can say : "it's 2 differents species".

Yes thanks, they are not Adults from what I can tell, But don't know their age, I have had them for 6 months and have another 2 of similar size showing the Blue finnage,
Like you say, I will see how they mature as time goes by. :-BD
