Inexpensive Digi-Cam?

Post by Caol_ila »

Hi!

My parents have granted me the wish to finally buy a digicam. My budget is in the 100-175 euro range. So i figure ill have to settle for an old cam if i wish to have good enough makro for fish photography. I once had a Nikon coolpix 990 lent from university which made some good enough pics for me to enter the catelog...Im gonna try get a cam from ebay. So any advice on a "cheap" usefull cam for fishypixx would be aprecioated.

greetings

My old Olympus "D" series camera was relatively inexpensive, with a macro that worked quite effectively for fish photos. Definitely make sure you are getting optical zoom, not digital, that will make a big difference in itself. Zdnet.com usually has great digital camera reviews, with all of the valuable information you need about each camera, in order to compare them, including price.

Congratulations on your camera habit to be :)

Yes, we use a Coolpix 995 (slightly updated 990), and love it. IMO, the 4500, the successor to the 995 in the swing body line, is pretty bad. The flash decides when it wants to go off by itself, which is highly irritating, and the UI is much more confusing than before because they tried to eliminate as many buttons as possible. If you can find a Coolpix 995 or 880 on eBay for a reasonable price, I think that would be your best bet.

can you give us a price range, would make giving you "cheap" digicams a lot easier.
