Hello, my friend picked up this catfish that is about 2 1/2" for $2.50 a few weeks ago. It has been in quarantine for awhile and he wants to toss it in one of his main tanks (75gallon Mbuna tank, 55gallon Pike tank, or 50gallon Planted discus/apisto tank). But before he tosses it in any tank he wants to be sure of what exactly he has, because we've looked around the Cat-e-log and it doesn't look like anything we've seen.
That is what is imported from Peru as Microglanis paraohybae , I have no idea if the
I.D. has been confermed or not.
The are very shy, peaceful ,and grow to about 4 in. max.
Interests: breeding catfish from all parts of the world and getting them into the hobby. favorite catfish is the stonecat madtom, btw ingo how are my fish
I have just found out that the fish pictured is Batrochoglanis raninus , That ment
the fish pictured under B. raninus is not as named and is B. villosus . So that solves
the I.D. problem with my two catfish. I do not have what the Cat-elog calls B. villosus
or a picture so I have no way of getting an I.D.
I made a mistake and I will admit it, the fish labeled as B. villosus is correct.
The color and boby shape threw me off, and this is not simple family.
I should have done my research befor I spoke.
if your friend wants to keep his apistos he shouldn't put it in their tank... this cat stalks smaller fish at night....and....GULP! where did that apistogramma go???
Heh he has it in a 10gallon right now that is packed full of java moss and convict fry... it has probably been feasting on baby convicts. It will probably end up in his 55gallon Pike tank where there are no apistos eat.
