Minor quirky behavior of on-mouse-over CLOG images - not flipping left

Post by bekateen »

Hi Jools,

This is probably a trivial behavioral irregularity I've noticed when looking at the pop-up CLOG images of a species when viewed from the Cat-eLog "Recent Species Updates" page.

Some images are not properly oriented, such that the fish faces right instead of left. Here are two examples of the right-oriented pop-up images:

But, if you click on the CLOG link to the Syno shown (), the image faces left at the top of the CLOG page. Or if you go to the Mochokidae family page and hover over the Synodontis ansorgii species name, the pop-up image is also oriented properly, to the left.

My suspicion is that the original images are right-facing, and the normal function that flips an image to face left is not working in this situation. But since the same problem doesn't occur from the Family page, this cannot be explained as a simple malfunction within the pop-up programming; it seems to be isolated to pop-ups on the Recent Species Updates page.

Probably not worth wasting your time on. But on the off chance that this might have a ripple effect to other programmatic issues, or if it is a symptom of a bigger problem, I thought it was worth noting.

Cheers, Eric

This has been a bug since the dawn of time. Almost. I am glad to fix it as it was also causing more than necessary database usage too. Each image record has a note of which way and image is facing (left or right). If it's right, then the master image is flipped and resized to be shown in the "tooltip" (floating hover-over image).

However, the bug meant that the wrong image record was used, so most of the time (~70% of our fish pics face left) the image looked OK but now and again it did not.

Sorted.
