Just realised I suggested Facebook to advertise, when I really meant Gumtree... I'm going senile at a younger age than most! ;)

Finding LFS that will give store credit does seem to be getting harder to find around here too. I used to travel to Warminster's Amazon Aquatics (last_trading_post on Ebay), where the owner was great at helping me source African livestock, but sadly the store ceased to be around the time they were due to move to a local garden centre last summer. :(

I've not been down there for a while now, but the manager (Lee) at Arundel Aviaries And Fisheries in Portsmouth would sometimes give some credit for fish and he always tended to have some less common Mochokidae in stock (plus a host of other gems).

Your 150cm long 400l might well be capable of keeping this catfish long term, depending upon what you long term stocking plans are and if you hoping to breed the Forktail Rainbowfish, but at least for now you can choose who adopts this lovely looking fish should you decide to definitely move it on.

Most synos are very unfussy as regards food, from my experience. Mine typically get a mixture of Tetra Prima; New Era (Catfish Pellets; Plec Pellets; broken up Tropical Grazer); JMC Catfish Pellets; along with the various bits of fresh fruit and veg I drop in my 6-foot tank for the Distichodus. Mine love their treat of defrosted critters every week or so. Some even learnt to skim along the water surface at the tank's edge for any Hikari Cichlid Gold floating pellets missed by the upper water fish!

Ordinarily, IMO there should not be any need to drop the food immediately outsider the hidey hole, if this syno is hiding away all day then for now I'd simply drop his/her food around the tank just before you turn off all the lights in that room.
