L027 with Cestode/Tapeworm?

Post by BazzNL »

Hi all,

I am not experienced with fish diseases and need you advice. Last week I started treating two of my tanks with Sera Tremazol since some of my cichlids showed signs of gill flukes (scrubbing along wood and sand). This morning I started the second treatment which is advised after 7 days.

Yesterday I saw a string of white feces coming from my L027 Panaque. I managed to catch the feces (picture below) and posted it on some forums for advice. I got some feedback that this is most likely cestode / tapeworm(?) and was advised treatment with praziquantel. Reading the information about Sera Tremazol, it states that the active substance in Tremazol is praziquantel (7,47grams per 100 ml).

Now my main question is: is the white feces of my L027 the result of me starting a treatment with tremazol last weekend? And since I am doing the advised second treatment today, am I on the right path?
I was also advised to use some antibiotics since cestode damage the intestines and a bacterial infection is most likely to occur. Any thoughts / experiences on this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Bas

Hi bazzNL
I just ran a course of treatment for worms and gill flukes also on two recently acquired plecos, I'm very not good with meds either, it was recommended by a breeder I buy fish from. The treatment i used was flubendazole the name of it was Wormer plus, but I'm in the UK. One of my plecos had the white stringy feces, but hasn't now though the treatment was a success. So maybe the wormer plus corrected it. There was definitely a gill parasite issue but i saw no evidence of expelled worms. Hopefully someone in the NL will chime in with some advice of what's available to you.
Thanks Teresa
