Revision of Cephalosilurus apurensis max size in Cat-eLog is needed
Our esteemed colleague jlnguyen74 from MFK has posted a picture of his , which he bought years ago from Yellowcat, another esteemed member both on PCF and MFK. The fish measures ~23" TL by the measuring tape. I think the Cat-eLog entry max size can be safely upgraded.
Any questions and challenges as to the species ID can be directed to Kirk aka Yellowcat. FWIW, which is not much, my present ID knowledge of the three major species in the genus agrees with Kirk's. In addition to our resident experts, if anyone has access to Wolfgang Ross, his opinion on the ID could too be consulted or anyone else's considered an expert on Cephalosilurus. Kirk's got plenty of photos of the fish when it was younger up to about 1.5', at which point jlnguyen74 has got the fish.

Re: Revision of Cephalosilurus apurensis max size in Cat-eLog is needed
Hi Viktor,
Good spot, I've updated the site to show 19" (482mm) because the fishes head starts at 1" on the tape and, as we use SL, the caudal peduncle is around 20". I know the fish is bent and so the straight line will be longer but I know from past experience this is hard to guess.
Great to have this feedback. If @ jlnguyen74 is up for it, I will add the image to the cat-elog so others can see the size these things can get to.

Taking a rope, laying it over the middle of the back of the fish, one can estimate the length. This is a technique often used on maps. I did so, and my estimation is around 20 inches.
I think however, Jools is right in rather having a measure that is realistic (the fish certainly has an SL of 19 inches) and besides - this last 2.5 cm does not matter that much

Kirk's the man when it comes to Cephalosilurus, from whom I've learned by far and large the most. Thanks, Sensei.
@Jools, jlnguyen74 is glad to contribute the photo to the Cat-eLog. Anything special you want me to do? I uploaded the image to this thread as is at 3+ MB.

I just need a '74's full name for the image credit and I'd really like to add it.

Just a minor point, the description still says Smaller than C.fowleri, yet C.fowleri is listed as 15.9" SL - should this be updated too?
