Wood, slices of raw sweet potato, boiled shrimp and clams or mussels or scallops, live black worms, Cobalt spirulina flakes, Omega shrimp pellets, generic pleco algae wafers, and some Repashy foods.

I hope your fish do well.

Cheers, Eric

Do you think that Panaqolus is actually more Omnivorous like Peckoltia?

The Cat-eLog says that Panaqolus " feeds on wood... Aside from wood, a mainly vegetarian diet is recommended, prepared food such as algae wafers and fresh vegetables, such as courgette (zucchini) and tubers such as potato or sweet potato (yams)."

I'm currently keeping five species of Panaqolus: , , , , and . I find their eating habits to be about the same for all the species.

They are herbivores primarily; their staple diet in my tanks is wood and veggies like sweet potatoes. They also get algae wafers and Spirulina flakes every few days. But if given the chance, they will devour live black worms, boiled shrimp, and boiled clams/mussels/scallops.

I don't let them overdo the meats; I add live black worms once or twice per week (mostly for the corys in the same tank), but I feed the shrimp and clams only about once per week or every other week. When I'm trying to spawn them, I'll increase the meat to 2x per week for a while, but not for more than 2-3 weeks in a row. In my experience, they benefit from some meat to grow and condition for spawning.

And for juveniles which have resorbed their yolk sacs, they get about 1/2 - 3/4 teaspoon of freeze-dried Tubifex worms two times per day, morning and night, along with generous portions of raw sweet potato and Spirulina flakes.

Cheers, Eric

From a private breeder in Eastern USA. I estimate they were a little over 2" SL when I got them a couple of months ago.

Thanks very much Eric for clearly detailing out the L397 foods for different stages.

Is it freeze dried Tubiflex worms that you feed the young?

Yes, freeze dried Tubifex worms. Other freeze dried worms (black worms, blood worms (mosquito larvae), etc., would probably work too.
