I do not have any idea of what kind of catfish is this
About this species, this species was being caught at the mouth of the Kwanza River, and unfortunately I couldn't take pictures of the whole fish, but I do not have any idea of what kind of catfish is this, I can't think of any of the catfish species identified in the consulted bibliography ...

It's some kind of Carlarius, possibly C. latiscutatus.

Hi HH,
Are you referring to the fish listed in our Cat-eLog as ? Do you know if there's a reason why PlanetCatfish hasn't moved the entry over to Carlarius? If it's just that the issue hasn't gotten done, I can make that update.
I'm looking at the COF and I see three valid Carlarius species.
- Carlarius heudelotii
- Carlarius latiscutatus
- Carlarius parkii
Cheers, Eric
EDIT: Hmmmm, I'm looking at the COF and at Fishbase - Oddly, COF lists Carlarius latiscutatus as valid and Arius latiscutatus as a synonym. But Fishbase lists them the other way around, with Arius being valid and Carlarius being the synonym. What to do with that?!?

Have a read of this: http://www.fishbase.org/Nomenclature/FBCofFNames.phpI'm looking at the COF and at Fishbase - Oddly, COF lists Carlarius latiscutatus as valid and Arius latiscutatus as a synonym. Basically, FishBase is a great resource for many things, but if you want an authoritative source on taxonomy and nomenclature, always go with CoF.

Ah, thanks Racoll!
Yes I do treat COF as more-likely-correct than FB. But that doesn't mean I take everything as printed. I've learned here that several authorities active here will consider valid names to be inaccurate, because for example, they might have personal knowledge regarding on-going research which (when eventually published) will reverse some taxonomic change listed on COF, and because of that the CLOG profiles here are left "as-is" and discrepant with current COF convention. So before I make changes to entries in the Cat-eLog here, I like to ask around before proceeding unilaterally.
Cheers, Eric
