What is this Orinoco/Ventuari pleco?
Hi!
My local fish importer imported Catfish home from Colombia a while back. Mainly L091, L200 and Hypancistrus Contradens. The company he buys from get the fish themselves and when they we're out collecting his 20+ cm L200's (Hemiancistrus Subviridis), they got another fish caught. They asked him if he wanted this fish and he said yeah sure and bought them too. They are the same species, remind me of some kind of peckoltia but i'm new in this and could be very wrong. And the company never gave them their L-number and just named them Catch: Orinoco/Ventuari.
I bought both these fish, which i think is a male and female. The larger male is between 12 - 12.5 CM. The female is 10.0 - 10.2, i measured her and managed to pick her up from the tank today. I took these pictures, they're not very good but i hope they might be enough. They are a bit more orange/black in real life, but the black is faded.

Beautiful fish. Reminds me of , but I doubt it's the same. is the only result I get from Orinoco and Ventuari, but it's clearly not that.
Actually, looks closer.

Agree with Haakon, this species is more elongated than the mentioned Peckoltia spp.

How did this end up in Ancistomus? It's a Peckoltia surely.

Re: What is this Orinoco/Ventuari pleco?
Hi again, Thank you all for all the help! Truly amazing!
It surely does look like 243, but it says here on the site that the species only reaches 10 cm. Both my fish are guaranteed over that size. Is the info card for the species wrong?
Are my individuals also completely full grown?
Thank again!

Hi
pcf lists standard lengths, so you need to add another 20-30mm for the caudal fin to get the total length. The max size is around 15cm for A. wernekei.

Re: What is this Orinoco/Ventuari pleco?
Hi again,
Ok. So my male has 2-3 CM to go and the female (Pictured fish) has about 5 centimeters left to grow?
Do you have any clue at what size they become sexually mature? Cause the fish in the picture seems to be gravid.
Best regards,
Fabian

Re: What is this Orinoco/Ventuari pleco?
Most plecs are sexually mature at around 5/8 grown..... a little more or less. So yours are 2/3 grown and should be mature enough to breed. Also, females tend to be a little smaller than the male... so she may never hit the max size.
