Are catappa/Indian almond leaves good for L134's
Hi,
I'm thinking about getting some for my L134's and Ancistrus tanks. Does anyone think it's worth getting some. I know it will release tannins and thats ok with me especially if it helps the fish. And of coarse lowering the PH a bit is a good thing because my tanks are always about 7.6.
Thanks Macrae

I don't know what other leaves are available in Australias bio diversity. But there are a lot of trees that will offer usable leaves for plecos in europe. I use Walnut and Oak leaves for my fish. Just stay away from any toxic plants and only collect the leaves during autumn, after the trees dropped them to the ground to be save.

I know these leaves are in australia, but not where to find them. I have found many places online to buy though. So i think i will buy about 200g of them at a good price and it will last a while. They last 6 months before going mouldy so i think i can use them in that time. It would be good to find them like you do in europe. How long do you leave them in your tank before changing to new ones.Jobro wrote: 10 Dec 2018, 13:38 I don't know what other leaves are available in Australias bio diversity. Hi all,
I know that @TwoTankAmin and @Jobro have been using Rooibos tea bags as a source of tannins, but I haven't tried them.
Other leaves that work as structural leaf litter are Magnolia grandiflora, Loquat (Eriobotrya japonica) and Camellia (C. sinensis, C x williamsii) and you may be able to PYO locally?
Loquat and Magnolia leaves are sold for Vivariums etc., but I'm not sure how big keeping Dart Frogs etc. in Australia or what you are allowed to import.
cheers Darrel
I think the tree (Terminalia catappa) grows in N. Australia and Queensland. I know that is a long way from you, but there should be some Australian based vendors (http://stfc.org.au/terminalia-catappa), which would get around your tight bio-security rules on plant.pointpleco wrote: 11 Dec 2018, 13:29 I know these leaves are in australia, but not where to find them.

Ok just my luck, yes it's far from me haha. Yeh thats alot better because of many customs rules here. I have found a few places in thailand that stock them and they say they have posted to australia (well they say they have).
Thanks thats a lot of possibilities for me, i will have to see if my local areas have those trees.
Yes i'm not too sure about the frogs. But i didread somewhere that only one L-number can be imported legally. Not sure if true and can't remember the number at this moment.
Thanks mate.
