L-260 Fry Question

Post by Speedy1985 »

2 weeks ago I was blessed with my first Hypan spawn, L-260 :d . I have an ongoing breeding report with pics as they progress. From what I could tell there were 8-9 eggs in the cave. Shortly after they started to hatch, 2 eggs were either kicked out or wriggled out. I was able to recover them with my trusty turkey baster and move them to a separate breeder box. They've continued to develop and have just about lost their egg sack now. All but 1 of the others that escaped and is hiding under a small piece of driftwood, are still in the cave with dad. I'm also considering moving the 2 from the breeder box back into the main tank once the remaining fry in the cave are out. From what I've read, the conditions of the main tank are better for the fry to feed on micro particles and such for healthier growth. My question is, if I leave them in there, will other adult 260's in the tank become predatory toward the young ones as they leave dads cave?

Hi Speedy1985,

Not in my experience. The adult L260 I've had left fry alone.

Good luck, Eric

Eric,

Thank you, I'll keep a close eye on them. They have plenty of small holes and nooks for hiding in the large piece of driftwood in there as well.

I have had the same experience as Eric. Once the fry have left the cave I've not seen any issues or conflict between the parents and young. In total my group have spawned about 6 times without issues.

Awesome and thank you as well. I'll feel much more confident now introducing the 2 in the breeder box back into the main tank to grow out.
