L-046 capture prohibited?

Post by Chill »

Is there any truth in the rumours that there is a stop in capturing them?

I read somewhere that they only counted 5 specimens in a set watersurface and that it should have been 50 to continue capturing them.

Hi!

Where did you read this and how long ago was that ?
I had talk about this particular topic a couple month ago and the only information was a program to protect Hyp. zebra was being discussed but no decision was made at that time...
Cheers

Hi,
it was planned to 1. Dez. 2003 for 4 months, but then again because of protest of some Brasilian exporteurs (not Europeans, they agrreed with the capture stop for 4 months) it didn´t come into force.
Now there were rumours of setting the Hypancistrus zebra on a list of "limited" species by the IBAMA.
But this isn´t actuall yet.
The latest rumour is, that the stop of catching for a period will start in march or april, but who knows...

Hi!

I have been in contact with some people there in Brazil.
Several possibilites has been discussed:
No catch during the breeding period ( approx. 4 months)
Forbidden catch during a 5 years spawn to let the wild stock grow in bigger number...
I shall check if there is any news...
Cheers
