Mixing plecos
Hope everyone is doing good! 2 questions.
In a 180 gallon with 6X adult yellow chubby plecos can I add 6X adult L204 Flash plecos?
Has anyone ever keep L397 together with L204?

Yes, no problem at all.AmazonTank wrote: 13 Dec 2020, 19:14 In a 180 gallon with 6X adult yellow chubby plecos can I add 6X adult L204 Flash plecos?
Yes, and it works fine, but considering the potential risk of hybrids it's not what I would recommend to somebody else....even though it would be interesting to see if it happens, how the juveniles would look and if they would be fertile.

Re: Mixing plecos
On caves for the l204 & l397 can someone recommend the perfect cave size for 3"-4" L # plecos?

Re: Mixing plecos
Get 1.5" to 1.75" diameter caves. Bamboo or clay works well. The standard caves sold by plecocaves.com are good for L397 (I've never bred L204, but I have kept them). That said, my Panaqolus albomaculatus which are similar to L204 like the longer caves better than shorter (standard) caves from plecocaves.

Re: Mixing plecos
10" is fine. But longer won't hurt. Bigger issue with longer cave is that you might have trouble fitting it front to back in tank. It may need to sit sideways.

Re: Mixing plecos
Can anyone recommend how many wafers does a 4" L204 eat? I think I feed to much.
I seem to be siphoning every morning wood and leftover wafers and repashy. Plecos are hard work.

Re: Mixing plecos
Depends on size of wafers. I would give probably 1-3 wafers every few days, not daily. In between give shaved sweet potatoes or cooked chopped shrimp or live blackworms in a bowl. If they're hungry, they can always chew on wood. Don't feed daily.
Good luck, Eric

Re: Mixing plecos
My L397 picked his cave and has been there for a few days now!
Hopefully he won't fall in love with my fat L204.
Has anyone ever had a hybrid situation with 2 different plecos and had cooler babies?

Those are some cool L's to get to keep. Please don't distribute any hybrid fry.
Did you say “CATFISH!?” I’m in.

I plan on separating soon.
I didn't realize they can even cross breed like that!
Has anybody have some cross breeding stories?

Re: Mixing plecos
Hi,
currently I am aware of around 30 cases where hybridization took place in Loricariidae. Hypancistrus, Pseudacanthicus and Panaqolus are the genera with most cases, but we also know of some in Peckoltia and Pterygoplichthys. The juveniles are fertile, and also breed with other hybrids resulting in "4 x hybrids".

Re: Mixing plecos
That is some interesting insight!
I have 4 of the caves taken by 2 L204 and 2 L397.
I need another month before splitting the 2 groups up.
I noticed a L204 trapping a L397 but only a few minutes I don't think it was love just a mistake.
When the sub adults start claiming caves does that mean they are sexually mature or is it just normal instinct?
