Siluriformes, Gonorhynchiformes, Cypriniformes, Characiformes, and Gymnotiformes make up the ostariophysians, one of the twobasal groups of euteleosteans. The order contains about 31 families, and 1 of these occurs in the Gulf of Mexico.
