most probably another S.eupterus cross. Pure S. eupterus hold this pattern when they are young, but as they get older (4-5 inches) they start to break into their more typical spotted body and banded fins. This one has a very short curved dorsal as well.

Thanks, Naturalart and Jools. To me this is the biggest anti-hybrid argument - the owner of this fish bought it as a baby "eupterus" and has had it for 5 years believing that's what it was. He posted it in a FB group asking why it's still juvenile colored.

He has not replied to my comment suggesting it's a hybrid so I don't know if he even saw it, or if he doesn't believe me or cares. Obviously the fish is doing fine so he hasn't had trouble caring for it, but it still isn't fair to him that his fish was misrepresented and it *could* have led to difficulties caring for it - hard to care for a fish correctly if no one knows what its needs are.
