L071?
I just found this fish for $12.00!? Sometimes it pays to know your fish.... well, to an extent anyway. I would love to hear any experts on weather this is L071 or not? I just got the fish and I understand it's stressed out. Plan on getting some better pics once it's through quarantine.

Re: L071?
Trying again with slightly better pics? Apologies but forgot to get the fins flared. Sigh, will have to wait until i have the time to chase it all over its new 'scaped' forever home.

So, yes, it could be - or at least one of the geographic forms. This is a species with several location dependent l-numbers.

Re: L071?
Thanks Jools, appreciate the info. Are there a set of 'hallmarks' for this L# ?

Re: L071?
Not especially. It's one of those where the location really helps. Things like spot size (small to very small), present or not in adults are variable. Size and shape are the same given the normal variance between sexes.
Statistically, your fish is most likely to be L071, but most major rivers in the amazon basin have an Ancistrus that looks similar. Sorry, not much help!
Cheers,
Jools

Re: L071?
Let us know if you find anything out - there is quite a lot of opinion about these, but when Ingo Seidel and I looked at them, he said they're all the same thing.
That's just made me think that I should consult his recent book - I'm away from home now but I will get back to it.
Cheers,
Jools
