Catfish photos from Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia
Hello Planet Catfish, I do volunteer work in the ichthyology department of ANSP. As some of you may know, ANSP houses a very large collection of catfish, as well as catfish type specimens. I was planning on doing a project of photographing a large number of the catfish that have not been photographed yet, would Planet Catfish be interested in using any of these photos if I posted them here (or I can send them another way too if that works better)?

Re: Catfish photos from Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia
Yes, I would certainly be interested in that. You could post them here, but emailing them to me (per species?) works too. It is especially the species where we have no photo that is of most value. Let's try a few for starters and see how we go?
Brilliant concept and thanks for thinking of us!

Re: Catfish photos from Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia
Sadly did not have time on Friday to take any photos, had to help prepare a ~600 fish loan shipment and give a collections tour. I am back in tomorrow though and should be able to take some.
For the view on the photos, at least for the loricariids, I was planning to do a dorsal view, lateral view, ventral view, and ventral view closeup of the head. Is there any other view that you think would be important?

Nice. What do you have in the way of Microglanis? Specifically, anything listed as iheringi, poecilus, secundus, or Microglanis sp. from Colombia, Peru, Brazil or the north coast nations?
Thanks. Cheers, Eric

Oooh, nice, I will add to the site soon. Can I ask, is there a list or searchable database of all specimens? If so, I could highlight those of interest?
Cheers,
Jools

Yes there is a bunch of Microglanis, you can search for some of what the museum has here https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search? ... advanced=1 , I can also check what is in the collection on Wednesday as this list is not complete.bekateen wrote: 04 May 2025, 08:16 Nice. https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search? ... advanced=1 is what is listed as the database, although I cannot seem to find a few things I know are in the collection so i do not think it is entirely completeJools wrote: 05 May 2025, 07:31 Oooh, nice, I will add to the site soon. Next set of fish I wanted to photograph had already been done, I got permission to post them here and for them to be used on the website.
