powdered carbon all over tank, hazard to plecos?

Post by BK »

hi,
i need urdgent advice/help. my filter chewed up a bunch of activated carbon when i was gone and spread it all over the tank. the fish, plecos L-91, appear inactive will the powdered carbon( really fine powder) hurt them? i don't think i can remove it all unless i completely tear down the tank and throw out the sponge filters (only fully cycled bio filtration on the q-tank tank) :(

thanks,
BK

I wouldn't think it'll hurt them, not outright anyways. I would do several water changes using a "gravel vac" to try to siphon off as much as you can.

There wouldn't be any reason for the fish to ingest it, so I'm not sure I'd worry about it too much.
Sincerely,
