New l-number pages

Post by Jools »

All~

I will be sigificantly updating the l-number pages over the next few months to keep as ahead of the chasing pack (who have made some progress of late). To this end there will be an "aqualog style" thumbnail index which links to the specific pages.

I've put the first, work-in-progress, pages online and you can see them at http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/l_index.htm .

I'm telling you all now becuase I am looking for feedback and ideas. Certainly the navigation between index pages will be improved, but I am very interested in your comments and thoughts on how you would use this resource.

Cheers,

Jools

I think it's starting to generate image errors on some of the Cat-eLog entries.

Looks good so far. It makes it easier to search through different pl*cos species when searching through what I want to get next.

Hi!

Looks good...
but:
* I would rather prefer to have them one after another than rows of 3... a bit like how species are shown on the cat-elog, I found it more user freindly that way...
*A sticky bar on top of the page with direct acces to the number wanted would also be a good idea...
* to stick with the L and LDA numbers, Lxa Lxb and stuff introduce by Aqualog should not appear in the main page but only as remarks and legend under certains picture or even not figure at all as they might get another L number in the future just like L27a and L330...
Just my 2 cents...
Cheers

There might be due to the associated change in the way we now handle image thumbnails. Can you give me a specific example or two and I will investigate.

Many thanks,

Ah, the old, double quote in the species title thing. I knew that would get me one day. This is being dealt with here.

Then you have much more scolling to do? Does it not fit on your screen in the left hand frame? I'm not convinced about this. Anyone else.
yannfulliquet wrote:*A sticky bar on top of the page with direct acces to the number wanted would also be a good idea...
Yes, totally agree. Might not be sticky (depends on technical things) but I know what you mean and agree with you.

Nah, I mean L010a is more well known than L010 for example. At the moment there are a lot of corrections I need to make and that will help things, but we are giving l-numbners too much respect here, they are just common names after if you get right down to it and aqualog uses them. In some cases, they can be covered in the text and I will try and do that wherever possible.

I am also hoping to produce pages for all l-numbers belonging to each genus, one page per genus, that'll keep the chasing pack at a distance!

on my smaller monitor the 3 rows don't fit and i have to scroll side ways or drag the limit for that window farther right, but on my college's computers with bigger monitors it works just fine.

Hi!

I have the same problem than BK:
At home I can't see the 3 rows well and must "roll" to the right...
So that way I would prefer to roll down...

At work no problem...
Could we have a try with 2 rows instead...

Cheers

Hi,
even the new Aqualog contains of some faults.
You should not repeat some of these faults, for example in temperature and in size.

I would tend to go to DATZ rather than Aqualog if I needed too...

Hi Jools,
ok ;)
For example: L 200 -> 22-25°C???
The temperature is a point in Aqualog, that´s wrong at nearly each species...

That's good to know, I don't really use temperatures or water parameters or size from Aqualog as they are often "too general". I tend to go to a map or another species from the river for parameters if I am unsure.

Ok, the next (and close to final) pages are now online. There is a new navigation menu menu that allows you quickly to jump to other pages and also a "show all l-numbers in this genus link" too.

Feedback wanted...
