Hi I,m new

Post by jeremy »

Hi folks,
this really is a good site. I have kept Malawi cichlids for some time now and was looking for something different. Since reading an interesting article in the British Cichlid Society's journal (http://www.britishcichlid.com) on catfish and malawis being kept together I was drawn to this site.
Thanks to the cat-eLog providing me with a great deal of useful information I am now the proud owner of 5 wild caught Synodontis multipunctatus. Although I realise they are actually from Lake Tanganyika they have the same water requirements, and S. nyassae is hard to come by over here!
The catfish have settled in well and are a great edition to my Malawi reef tank.
I understand that with alot of luck they might cuckoo spawn with the Protomelas steveni Taiwans that I have with them (according to witness accounts on this site), these are an adult pair that have bred a few times already.
However I dont think my synos are adult yet at 8-9cm total length.
At what length are they adult / or start to breed? Do they take a while to mature because they are quite long lived?

Anyway glad to be here

Jeremy
