White spots on my catfish

Post by KnockoutTrish »

I have 2 pictus catfish and they are in with some Cichlids. We just noticed that they both have white spots on their fins and body. Is this a sign of ick or could it be something else? And if it is ick, what should I do to treat it?

:(
Thanks for the information, however, both of my PIctus Catfish have died either from the ich or from treating the ich. We are now in the waiting phase of all this. My kids are really upset because we have a 29 gallon tank and it only has 5 fish in it now. We have 1 pleco and 4 african cichlids.

We went to PetSmart and got some Ich Clear medication and that is what they told us to use to get rid of the ich. How long should we continue to treat with tank with this unti we do a water change and replace fish? I have read in some places that says to treat the tank for 14 days, but I don't nkow if that is the same for this medication or not. I do not want to spend any more money on replacing these fish because they are a little pricey and take the chance that the ich will come back and I will lose them again.

Thanks again,
Tricia
