I'm sorry this is a little vague, but I need some help possibly ID'ing a catfish I saw at a fish store(not local, about 190 miles away). It was about 2 feet long and the guy said it was pretty much a baby that it'd reach around 8 feet. Anyways, it was grey to dark grey on top slowly getting lighter on its way down, but it had this beautiful pink stripe going up it's side. I know it's not much to go on, but any ideas - I just want to try to find some more information out about them as I'm planning to stock a 1500gal tank soon.
Thanks for any info.

hi darwins son
word of warning. these fish do get to that size if it is a red tail cat (phractocephalus hemioliopterus)
they are preditory catfish. they will eat anything they can get in their mouths. among other foods in the wild they are reportedly fond of freshwater crabs. so armoured type fishes of a smaller size
are not a problem.. also . having taken care of a number of these fish over the years.
keeping one is ok. keeping three or more together is ok.. two..tend to fight. also they tend to
pass more urine than anything making vast amounts of ammonia, therefore filtration should
at the minimum be three times greater than normalally used on that size of aquaria.. oh! and bye the way i know someone who had one that tried to eat his hand when he was cleaning the inside
of the glass.
