Breeding of Gymnallabes?
Hi!
I recently purchased 4 Gymnallabes typus which have been eating well and swimming very actively so far.
Yesterday i noticed some tears and scratches also some missing chunks of "fins". So i caught them today and when i had them separated for treatment i noitced that one fish has a much bigger body than the others and the rear half of the belly is also shimmering yellow so my guess is shes gravid and carrying a big amount of eggs.
My question is now how they would spawn. My guess is a cavespawner? whos guarding the eggs? And how could i trigger spawning? Any ideas welcome

Hi!
Ive now taken some pics and rehoused the Gymnallabes.
This is the gravid female getting thicker by the day...

The temperature has risen the last few days and is now around 30°C which is the same in my tanks...
Im feeding them on black/white/red mosquito larvae and also krill. Theyve started swimming up and down the front alone and in pairs staying close together. Also the female has dug a few holes but im not sure if its just digging for food.
In front is the male(?)

I have one these. One of my favourite catfishes of all time. Unfortunately haven`t been able to get more of those cats. At ths part of the world they seem to get here only as by-catches. Good luck with the breeding.
Well i wish i was a catfish

your pix seem catelog material to me; this is a very unusual catfish, and that female's definitely gravid.
tried some waterchanges with colder water through a "showerhead"-gardenhose gizmo?
(imitating rainy season!)
I mean one of these, but haven't got a clue about name

something like this.
a very handy thingy!

...Spritzpistole
dunno in english either
An online friend that has bred H.fossilis with his dad told me that they reacted on warm waterchanges...but its around 30°C right now so i cant go any higher. Last night i did a 4°C temp drop during a thunderstorm. They reacted with unbelievable nervousness...not trying to jump out but cruising in circles and trying to dig...
