It's that time of the (old) year again

With about two weeks to run for 2004, what did you feel was the highlight of the year?

And what is your resolution for 2005?

(The highlight of the year for me was definitely the Catfish Convention, and I resolve to be almost done with my dissertation by 2005).

The Catfish Covention was of course my highlight!! My resolution...taking more pics and dedicating space for breeding some of the fish in my collection. Of course, helping to make the next US convention possible!

Ditto, I was so excited when I first saw the banner across PlanetCatfish for a catfish convention in DC that I didn't even give my wife an option to talk me out of it. Great show, definently one of the highlights of my year.

A catfish convention was a nice change from all of the cichlid conventions.

The highlight for me was recently committing to a trip to Africa, I will be going to Lake Malawi(Stuart Grant's) and Lake
Tanganyika (Toby Veall's) My last major trip was five years ago to Europe so I am really looking forward to this. I don't go until later in 2005 but It can't come fast enough.

Resolution,nothing is going to keep me from going I will crawl there if I have to.

The convention was definately the highlight of the year for me. My resolutions for 2005 are to post more photos, update the Cat-elog, breed some Syno's and enjoy each day.

My favourite of this year was getting back into fish-keeping. Ok, so it was my fiance that got the first fishtank in summer 2003 (one of them cheap'n'fearfull plastic things) with a pair of goldfish. But it soon got my old interest fired up, and we've now gone from a single tank of less than 20 liter, to having three tanks (and that's after my fiance's niece got the plastic tank), with a total volume of over 500 liters.

I've still got to populate the two new tanks, as they are my birthday/christmas present to myself and a christmas present for my fiance respectively. Filled them with water over the weekend, so just waiting for the water to settle before I put the first few fishies in there.

Looking forward to having my new 400 l (90 Imp Gal/100 US gal) tank fully stocked up. I keep changing my mind on what I'm going to keep tho'. Every time I see some new nice fish, I think "Oh, maybe I could have a few of those, if I don't get any of those other ones", so the list is changing...

Haven't planned any resolutions yet. [Maybe "Not to buy any more fish-tanks", but I'd probably break that one pretty quickly, so not such a good idea...]

My highlight in all was learning how to scuba-dive in the Great Barrier Reef in Oz and feeding the sharks

however; my absolute highlights in the catfish-hobby were:
getting my own CotM! on Lophiobagrus brevispinis and breeding the little critters

and breeding succesfully with Phyllonemus typus; another milestone in the fishcareer......

My plan for 2005 include finishing an article on the last;
breeding the unbreedable-until-now Synodontis polli, and perhaps....the Granny!

My highlight from a personal viewpoint has to be the two weeks me and my lady, Louise spent in Canada with Oliver Lucanus (http://www.belowwater.com) and his delightful partner Laurence. One week in the GaspÃ©, seeing 5 species of whale and snorkelling with wild Salmon, followed by another week back in Montreal relaxing, talking fish and eating superb food has to be right up there in the chart show of life.
From a professional viewpoint, it has to be the resolution of a long-standing issue, which has resulted in me being able to finally think about getting a new member of staff at work, with all the possibilities that entails.
And for 2005?
Getting somewhere warm, with Freshwater to explore is one 'must', and doing something worthwhile with the facilities that are available to me at work is another.

It's real tough for me to decide what was better, meeting Indian fishes in person (and all that fun it entailed) or meeting much of this community in person. I can't decide between the two but I also musn't forget Jon Armbruster's talks at the catfish convetion in March.

Short, medium and long term goals for 2005 are (in order) finishing the marathon that has been the planetcatfish article enhancement (it's a surprise, but I hope to have it done by end January), giving a killer talk on the aforementioned India trip at the UK catfish convention in February, and long term engaging an arcitect (or even builders !) in my fish house extension project. Given I write this with a small part of my spare bedroom roof leaking, that's going to be a challenge.

Highlight of my year was getting the aquarist job at the zoo!

I had no clue I was getting it either until the owner Mickey called me at home and asked if I could come in the following day.....

As for resolutions, I WILL find a way to make my bronze cories spawn! I was just given a breeding group from a friend (and I know they are a breeding group as I have two spawns from them, from her, from previous years!) and I WILL SPAWN THESE CATS!
