Gmail is a web-based e-mail system, similar to Hotmail.

It's biggest claim to fame is that you get lots (can't remember how much tho') space for your mail on their server.

I think the G stands for google, but it's been a while since I heard much about it.

At the moment, they are in "trial", so they don't allow just anyone to have an account, you have to have an "invite" from someone who is already a user. To some people, this is valuable.
