Unknown Catfish

Post by djensing »

I have an unknown catfish. It tends to hide underneath rocks upside down and seems to be some kind of pleco. it is a greenish tan color with small black spots. its dorsal fin is nearly always flat against its body. its side fins overlap each other and it therefore takes on an almost ray like appearance. with itf fins like this and a tail that is to short to be that of a whiptail i am completely lost as to what it is. if anyone can help that would be great. my digicam doesn't work right now but if i can get it too i will post as pic of it as well. also when it is against the glass its underside is somewhat translucent and you can see what appears to be its heart beating near the middle of its body.
Thanx Dave

Hi,

It sounds like you have a type of Hillstream Loach.

Cheers, CatBrat.

Yes, sounds like Beaufortia leveretti.

It is in fact a hillstream loach and looks exactly like the one in the pic. thanx alot. However im wondering if it is a Beaufortia leveretti or Beaufortia kweichowensis the pics of both look quite similar and i am wondering if there is a surefire way to tell them apart.
thanx again Dave
