It may be helpful to use Latin names in posts, specially those where advice or help is wanted.
This may prevent a lot of unnecessary posts being sent, for common names vary too much in different languages and require further explanation.

I could not agree more. However, Planetcatfish is used by all different level of hobbyists and many are not quite to th point of using scientific names or being familiar enough with the families and genera of catfishes to know where to start looking.
I actually did not know for years that the Cat-eLog could be viewed by common name. I always viewed it by family and scientific name. The fact of the matter though is that most users of the site scroll through the Cat-eLog using the "common names" view.
It would certainly not be fair to newer hobbyists, and even older hobbyists that have no interest in taxonomy, to require the use of scientific names.

I think the responsibility lies with those whole can converse in binomials to use them whenever possible (and the catelog tag) to encourage use. As Shane says, many of our users are taking their first steps into this world.
