Many who move to Florida from other states see it as their "supreme" right to take the pets they had in colder climates and "set them free".

My Brother in law dodges 5 foot long Iguanas that jump into the saltwater canal behind his house. There are Aussie Crocs, Tetras, and reptiles galore in the backyards of Florida!

The vast majority of introduced fishes in Florida have everything to do with animals escaping tropical fish breeding farms during floods, hurricanes, etc and very little to do with hobbyists releasing fishes (not to imply that it does not happen). Singapore has the same problem, but it is much easier to blame hobbyists than a multi-million dollar a year industry.
Armadillo del rio (River Armadillo) is a common name for Hypostomines throughout northern South America. It is not applied to any particular species.

Well, perhaps this answers one question. The question being, do plecos dig their own mud burrows or do they take up residence in someone elses construction. Looks like the former?
